Smart Port Challenge (SPC) is an annual innovation competition to find the best ideas and solutions from technology start-ups to address challenges, or innovation opportunities, put forth by maritime corporates in Singapore.

This year’s Smart Port Challenge offers 12 innovation opportunities supported by 24 corporate sponsors.

Improving Real-time Port Productivity at Jurong Port – 2 Innovation Opportunities:

Jurong Port is a multipurpose port operator that provides berthing facilities for vessels and facilitates loading and unloading cargo from ships.

Opportunity #1: Improving Cement Removal Process – How Can We Remove Cement Residue in an Automated, Effective, and Efficient Manner?

Jurong Port is seeking for solutions to overcome the manpower-intensive and hazardous nature of removing cement residue, ideally, with a self-operating or remotely controlled system in an effective and timely manner.

Successful solutions will:

• Not damage ship cargo holds
• Take no more than 2-3 hours to clear each hatch
• Result in a clean surface; no lumps of cement residue
• Minimize manpower required due to the safety hazard posed by cement dust and time taken for removal of residues

Opportunity #2: How Can We Streamline Communication and Have Real-Time Operational Overview of Vessel Activities in Jurong Port?

Jurong Port is looking for effective and efficient solutions to better manage its operational communications across various platforms.

The solution may be an operational mobile enabled solution to provide real-time operational updates, which is a single point of information flow and access solution for end users (internal and external) to retrieve operational information and update required operational information; or

– A web-based app or digital platform that standardizes and integrates real-time data from digital and analogue sources such as video feeds, photos, forms and documents etc., to better match demand with supply, while serving as a common channel for communication across multiple users.
